Shoulder pain and injury are common. Your shoulder is the most mobile of all your joints. Just think about how much it can actually move.
The reason for this movement is a very small joint contact zone. This essentially means that your shoulder is quite unstable. That is why your shoulder muscles are so vital to a normally functioning shoulder.
In most cases, if you are suffering shoulder pain it is because your muscles are simply not strong enough or they are uncoordinated.
Most shoulder pain is caused by one of the following categories:
- Rotator Cuff Tendon Injuries
- Bursitis Shoulder
- Shoulder Dislocation (Instability)
- Frozen Shoulder
- Fractures
- Shoulder Arthritis
Your Physiotherapist will perform a detailed history, orthopaedic, neurological, and shoulder examination to determine the exact cause of your shoulder pain. Other tests including x-rays and digital scanning may also be recommended.
Researchers have discovered that managing your shoulder injury with physiotherapy treatment is usually successful. Physiotherapy treatment may include Joint mobilisations, massage, electrotherapy, work or sport specific strength training.
In most cases non-surgical management approach is successful. However, each case is different and your condition will dictate which option is best for you at this time. Non-operative care is also referred to as conservative rehabilitation. If shoulder surgery is required, then our physiotherapist will refer you on for further management.
At Integrate Physio our physiotherapists have a special interest and an excellent working relationship with Brisbane’s leading shoulder surgeons to provide you with both conservative and operative rehabilitation options to ensure that you will attain the best outcome for your shoulder injury.
